New music to listen to this week: High Tyde. OK so I’m dubious about the name but I think it’s going to grow on me, and the music they’re putting out is catchy in a Don Broco kind of way. Worthing’s new indie upstarts need bigger stages after some raucous-sounding tours around the UK. Still in their teens, they’ve already toured with the likes of Peace and Little Comets, along with slots at Y Not Festival, Dot 2 Dot, and Reading & Leeds.

They are: Cody Thomas-Matthew (vocals, bass), Connor Cheetham (guitar), Spencer Tobias-Williams (guitar) and Louis Semlekan-Faith (drums).

Q&A with High Tyde

What are you listening to at the moment?

A lot of Kings of Leon, Two Door, Foo Fighters and Rick James! Kings of Leon’s Youth and Young manhood though… What an album! Also ‘Wait for Me’ is the go to tune at this moment.

What are your plans for the rest of 2016?

We will be constantly writing music. Releasing more music including an EP and touring for 2 weeks at the end of October/ start of November! So buzzing for it. It’ll be our biggest and maddest headline shows to date. We strongly advise everyone to come down and party. You won’t regret it.

What was the first gig you ever played and what’s been the best so far?

First show we ever played was at the Ouch bar in Brighton to like 10 people. I don’t think it even exists anymore. We played like 4 songs as we’d only been a band for 5 minutes!

Our favourite show to date has to be Reading festival. It was such an honour to play as we’ve been attending for a few years now and having seen all of our favourite bands perform on the stages, to be up there ourselves and see the madness people caused in the crowd was an indescribable feeling. Perfect way to end the summer!
